Welcome to my therapy space

This post is a peek into my office space in Sheung Wan.

I’m someone who pays a lot of attention to the physical environment I’m in, always feeling most at ease when there’s soft lighting, muted tones, a mix of textures, and just the right amount of visual interest not to be over- or underwhelming. Once upon a time, I might have thought this was a lot to ask, but I’ve since learned that sensory input from our environment has a lot to do with how safe, secure, and at ease we can potentially feel. I know many of my clients relate to their environment similarly, so designing a therapeutic environment has been of interest to me for the last several months. I wanted my space to be comfortable, private, quiet, and aesthetically pleasing so both myself and my clients can enjoy a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.

What’s not pictured here is the process—I set aside three months to slowly find furniture and decorative pieces that would give this space the character and warmth it deserved. During this time, with the help of my partner, I cleaned the space from top to bottom, completed dozens of GoGoVan runs to pick up second hand furniture I was coveting, restored pieces that needed extra love, installed track lighting that is easy on the eyes, and generally just spent time in the space asking myself what it needed next. It was a really fun process and I got to tap into my creative side to bring it to life! I was inspired by spaces that have made me feel safe throughout my lifetime, as well as my nostalgic love for mid century modern design.

I invite you to have a look at some pictures below:
