TESTIMONIAL

Introspection isn’t always easy and even when we find the courage to look inside ourselves, it can be difficult to articulate those thoughts - especially on tough topics like how we handle feelings of burnout, what brought us to where we are today, and why we developed certain patterns. It’s neat how Alli can turn these questions around so that instead of being a daunting task, they’re fun to explore.

I learned that human beings are complex. We can hold contradicting beliefs and ideas, which change with new experiences and interactions - and that’s okay. In fact, that’s what makes life such an adventure. Alli’s patience and thoughtfulness built a space for me to practice slowing down and becoming curious about who I am, what I’m afraid of and hope for, and where I want to go next.

This is an informal, yet intentional gathering space for anyone working alongside the asylum seekers and refugees of Hong Kong. It is a space to settle in, be in community together, and build on our existing capacity to sustain ourselves in this work.

What we will aim to cover:

  • trauma stewardship as a new paradigm for working alongside people with complex or traumatic histories

  • recognizing and responding to secondary trauma exposure within ourselves

  • self-inquiry into what drives our work; evaluating where we’re putting our focus

  • creating a supportive network of peers that sustains us

  • engaging with life outside of work in a way that feels right

  • daily practices that centre us and our wellbeing
